Patagonia has done an amazing job in the last few years by not only becoming a staple of any self respecting VSCO Girl’s (and Guy’s) wardrobe but also legitimately securing its reputation as a socially conscious brand that makes a difference. In the age of ‘woke-washing’ where every man and his dog is plastering anything not nailed down with a rainbow logo to show they care about making money equally from all their customers, the cool outdoor clothing brand is living up to its promises.
The opening of the Patagonia Action Works Cafe on Broadway Market, coincides with the launch of the Patagonia Action Works platform, which connects people to local and national organisations they can support. They are also donating 100% of the money from coffee purchased to local UK environmental charities and NGOs. Education, combined with a great place to get your daily caffeine fix is a win win and gives the brand a load of great stories to tell to their consumers. Crocs’ famous meme-worthy image is getting a Shoreditch makeover with a little help from our client Upbeat Juicy Protein Water. Last week, Crocs opened a pop up design store at Boxpark Shoreditch for those, who like the brands Crocs and Upbeat, cannot be put into a box.
To celebrate the new space Crocs hosted a party where attendees and influencers designed a Classic Clog to match their style with illustrations from Ben Rider, all while enjoying some delicious protein water.
What’s better than the Oscars? The hotukdeals 2019 Retailer Awards, of course. With over 1.8 million savvy shoppers, the annual hotukdeals 2019 Retailer Awards asked users to vote on their favourite retailers who offered the top money saving deals over the past 12 months. From six categories (fashion & beauty, grocery, family & kids, electronics, gaming, and travel) the final winners were:
Best in Fashion & Beauty deals - Boots
Best in Grocery deals - Tesco
Best in Family & Kids deals - Smyths Toys
Best in Electronics deals - John Lewis
Best in Gaming deals - GAME
Best in Travel & Leisure deals - Groupon
And thankfully all Moonlight/Lala Land envelope disasters averted.
While we might still be waiting for the summer to actually arrive, as soon as the mercury does start to climb we’ll be fully prepared with the newest White London client, the delicious and refreshing Upbeat Protein Water. Made from real fruit, energising B vitamins and whey protein isolate it’s designed to help keep you feeling energised and maintain mental performance. We’re excited to kick off our campaign to help spread the word about this great new product to support their summer marketing plans.
Now all we need is the rain to stop…
We all know awards mean nothing, until you get nominated that is! That’s why we are crazy-proud that our client, cycling GPS tech start-up, Blubel has been shortlisted for the Evening Standard Business Awards in the Social Enterprise Company of the Year category.
Their mission is to get more people on their bikes by aiding less stressful cycling with a simple, intuitive navigation experience, taking you off the main roads for a safer (and calmer) journey.
The judging panel is headed up by none other than George “Gideon” Osbourne. We’ll sure he’ll make the correct choice, right?
Full list of nominees here.
Fed up with same old sales with retailers trying to get rid of stuff they don’t want, rather than giving you great deals on stuff you actually do? Well you are not alone. Our favourite Amsterdam-based client (disclaimer we only have one so far) Peddler.com is changing all that with its unique group-buying platform which lets you choose what you want and then they go away and get you a deal. Talk about a fair marketplace…cushty right?
Beware, it’s a pretty addictive way to shop.
While Patti Smith maintained that the night belongs to lovers, cyclists are also staking claim with the latest Ride The Night London event in aid of the Women V Cancer alliance of charities. Taking place on 25th May 2019, women need to sign up now, with just a month to hit their donation target deadline. We’ll be there, head to toe in lycra (as always) supporting the event with our bike GPS client Blubel.
Get peddling! Or you can just donate to this excellent cause…
While Pop-Tarts aren’t necessarily the most real kind of foodstuff at the best of time, you might have seen even more bizarre flavours popping up on social media recently. From Caesar Salad to Frosted Water (and even Nuclear Waste) photoshopped images of “new products” have been popping up online all over the shop.
While some of the resulting images would send some brand managers into an existential panic, the way their social media team have dealt with the craze has capitalised on the affection people already have for the product. Without taking anything too seriously (it’s Pop-Tarts after all) they have responded by reposting on their channel with captions like “yes it's real because of course everything you see online is true” and even better “I don’t have time for this today.”
The lesson is that you can’t control user-generated content and the mere fact that fans are taking the time to create stuff based around your brand is something you can’t buy. Put a smile on your face and roll with it.
What’s the one thing people want to hear more about? That’s right Brexit!
While most of us have perhaps had enough of the gift that keeps on giving and just want the madness to stop (yea, we said it) one sector where the uncertainty is having the greatest impact is property. If you aren’t sure what to do during the unending lead up to March 29th (and beyond) check out this advice from our client Alex Thorpe from NetAnAgent.com giving some words of wisdom in the Daily Express.
He is remaining positive, even if we are leaving.
Aldi have done it again with their production line of buzz-driving product announcements. This time it’s the return of their Grim Reaper Sausages, which are reported to be have an average heat rating of 1,569,300 Scoville heat units, meaning they’re 400 times hotter than a Jalapeño. These launches manage to keep people excited about going in store to see what’s new, not just save a load of cash.
Thanks (but also we’ll stick to chipolatas).
Getting WL Towers in shape for the year ahead there is nothing better than a bit of an office tidy up.
As we have learnt from our latest Netflix obsession Marie Kondo, stage two of any clear-out is “Paper.” Great that our client Fellowes has the best kit for securely disposing of confidential docs. But don’t take our word for it, check out what The Sun said about the toughest shredders out there.
Did someone say GDPR?
While it’s often said that the US and the UK are two countries divided by a common language, getting yourself understood around Great Britain and Ireland can be tough enough.
The New York Times has created this fantastic (and pretty accurate) Dialect Quiz to predict where you are from by the words you use.
Have to say it did pretty well with the White London team.
Tig, Tag or It? Make your choice.
Telling the story of the sale of 21 stores across the UK (securing the future of 210 jobs) to the food retail and wholesale giant, we worked with administrators KPMG to drive positive media coverage.
With more than 100 pieces published to date including City AM, FT, The Guardian and Evening Standard we look forward to helping AFB to continue to communicate their expansion as the journey continues.
Getting cut-through for your brand during any holiday can be tricky but Poundland have managed it again with their engagement ring on a budget.
We’re not sure how well it would go down if you whipped one of these out on a Valentine’s Day Date but it’s certainly managed to capture the media’s imagination and conveys the high street favourite’s personality.
Selling your home can be a stressful process at the best of times, let alone with the tough predictions about the health of the UK property market over the last few months.
But thanks to our new client, NetAnAgent.com, an online comparison site for estate agents, people can now find the best estate agent in their area to help speed up the process.
Over the last few months, we have built up some great relationships with key property media, as well as national and consumer titles including Daily Express, The London Economic and House Beautiful, who have all covered NetAnAgent’s expert tips on how to sell in such a turbulent market. In between eating mountains of cheese and watching re-runs of Only Fools & Horses (maybe just me) we have been busy over the Christmas break putting the final touches to our new branding and website.
After lots of deliberation we decided that as always, the best route is the simplest. So our paired back design and branding means that our work can do the talking. Just the way we like it at White London.
Huge congratulations to the Choose Love team who have opened the world's first shop where you can buy real products for refugees for the second year.
Simple, perfectly executed and the perfect antidote to the typical seasonal excesses.
Thanks to hotukdeals, the UK’s biggest deal-sharing community, the White London team have turned into a savvy bunch of bargain hunters constantly comparing prices and tips on where to get the best deals.
Black Friday went by in a blur of deals and coverage with the BBC, The Guardian, Daily Mirror, The Sun and more, but thankfully our Christmas shopping has been slightly more relaxed this year. Once we were introduced to the 1.6 million members at hotukdeals we quickly realised they have some of the best tips out there on where, when and how to shop the bargains successfully.
It's been a fantastic few months working with innovative bicycle bell brand Blubel. Blubel uses your phone’s sat nav technology and displays simple directions using the bell’s LED design to help you find the most bike friendly route.
The media response to Blubel has been brilliant, with reviews, full product features and Christmas gift guides. Find out more about the campaign here.
Bringing research to life can be tricky but we love this campaign from Frankie & Benny's who put their findings to the test to see if ditching mobile phones at dinner made happier families.
Put the phone down and have a chat this December.
